In this live meeting learners will have an opportunity to read an article about Christmas traditions on the island of Puerto Rico. They will also get a chance to interview the teacher who is a native of Puerto Rico and lived there for over 25 years. Students will learn key Spanish words related to the culture and celebrations. They will explore details about various traditions that the island has for celebrating the holiday season. We will have open dialogue, reading time, written questions and an interview time. Vocabulary: -Navidad -Las Octavitas -Parranda -Villancicos -Pasteles -Lechón -Tembleque -Pascua -Tres Reyes -Boricua Maestra Zia is a happy teacher who prides herself in creating a positive learning environment that fosters student participation. Learners a encouraged to interact during our open discussion time as well as ask the teacher questions about the topic. No experience needed. We will be seeing some Spanish words in our text but this class will be held in English.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Puerto Rico
Maestra Zia is a native of Puerto Rico. She was born on the island to Puerto Rican parents and lived there for over 25 years. SHe has two degrees from the University of Puerto Rico. She and her Puerto Rican husband carry on these Puerto Rican traditions with their son even though they now live in the near Washington DC.
