Kicking off the Christmas season, in this one time class I will read the book Dasher by Matt Tavares. We will discuss bravery and they will have the opportunity to share a time in their life where they felt brave. After the story we will complete a simple Dasher drawing and they will color their masterpiece! A secondary pre-printed craft option will be provided for students who wish to focus on coloring. Students will have the opportunity to share their drawings/coloring sheet with the class if they chose to. No reading is required of the student and minimal supplies are needed for the drawing/coloring.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about bravery and the magical spirit of Christmas. They will work on their drawing and coloring skills and feel a sense of accomplishment after completing their art project. They will hone their listening skills and practice direction taking skills.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from University of California Riverside
Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son and three cats! I like online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
