Class Experience
Is your child excited about the holidays? Come join in this one time class for a fun holiday read aloud and then unlock some Christmas creativity by building with bricks your child has available. *Note, if you do not have bricks, you can use a material such as a dough, clay, or any other materials you have available. The goal is to allow your child to create something from the story using whatever materials he/she feels most comfortable with to enjoy the class. We'll begin our class using...
Participate in an interactive read aloud. Student will be able to use oral language skills to express favorite part of the story. Student will be able to answer comprehension questions about what was heard. Student will be able to design and build a Christmas themed creation.
Read alouds are a vital part of a child's development and a wonderful way to engage learners in the reading process. As an experienced classroom teacher and elementary school librarian, with a Master's in Reading, I love to captive students with wonderful pictures books. I love to incorporate skills like predictions, connections, and summarizing when doing read alouds so learners connect to the text. Adding in the element of building, allows your child to use his/her creativity to build something related to the text and our holiday theme. Fostering the love of creativity and reading are two of my passions and I hope your child will find this course a fun winter favorite!
Teacher will provide a handout 1 day prior to the class with creation ideas, should your child need help getting those creative juices flowing
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
As a teacher, librarian, and mom of three little ones, I always recommend previewing the books ahead of time to see if it is appropriate for your child.
