Let's Celebrate a Book this Christmas! Join me this holiday season for some relaxed, fun, and thought-provoking book discussion of this fantastic holiday book. I hope these discussions will foster a love of stories and lay the foundations for future literary analysis. Learners will be encouraged to share their ideas, thoughts, and conclusions about various aspects of the book and movie in a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere. THE BOOK - THE NIGHT I MET FATHER CHRISTMAS This book is a delightful and creative retelling of A Christmas Carol. Comparing it to a movie version of A Christmas Carol would be a ton of fun! Learners should read (or listen to) the book before our first meeting. We will discuss topics such as plot elements, characters, themes, the author's style, and more. At the end of our meeting, I will ask everyone to share their favorite quote from the book. Quotes can be silly or serious. Sharing a favorite quote is optional but encouraged. Students can also share a favorite moment, character, or scene. NOTE: Learners may read the book on their own, listen to an audiobook, or have a parent read the book aloud to them. All options are fantastic ways to experience the story. MEETING INFORMATION During our meeting, I will facilitate a roundtable discussion and make sure everyone has a chance to share their ideas. I'll guide the students as they express their opinions and listen to the views of others. Learning to support your ideas from literature is the foundation of literary analysis, so our book club allows everyone to practice in a comfortable atmosphere. GAME TIME! We will play a Christmas-themed game at the end of our meeting. The packet you receive upon registering for this class will include more information. Participants are encouraged, though not required, to dress in Christmas attire and festively decorate their background area. I can't wait to discuss this book with you!

Parental Guidance
Always research the content of the book before signing up your child. This book's "scariest part" is the "scary" snowman from the past. It happens in Chapters 22-25 if parents want to preview that section for their more sensitive readers. I thought it would work for ages 8+ and maybe even younger as a family read-aloud.
Supply List
Students will need a copy of the book (or an audiobook). Students can read the book on their own, listen to an audiobook, or parents can read the book to their child.

Hi, my name is Mary and I love all things books and book clubs. I have been organizing and leading book clubs in the homeschool community for 6 years and I can't wait to discuss books with you. My book clubs are designed to encourage and inspire students to think more deeply about what they read, to form and defend their opinions, and to engage others in conversations about books.
I believe that book clubs are a brilliant way to lay the foundation for literary analysis. Well-crafted discussions help us explore various literary and plot elements, the author's style, and book themes in a fun and relaxed environment. I know everyone is capable of sharing great insights and the questions in our book club will be designed to draw those insights out.
I am a graduate of Towson University with a BS in Elementary Education. I taught in the public school system (elementary and then middle school) for five years before staying home with my kids. We began homeschooling over 12 years ago and in that time, my own love of children's books and young adult literature was reignited. I spent two years as an employee at Brave Writer where I facilitated online book clubs and now I share my love of books online on my own website at Celebrate a Book.
I live in North Carolina with my husband, four kids, and our dog, Lafayette. Yes, the dog represents our family's absolute love for Hamilton: The Musical.
