Description

Class Experience

Students will improve descriptive writing skills and expand on their cooking creativity,
I have been a high school English teacher and speech and debate coach for 15 years. I also have extensive background working in restaurants in all facets of the industry. I love to cook, love to eat, and I even ran a successful bar kitchen as a chef.
Each week students will be given a list of ingredients that they must use to create an original dish. Students will take photos or videos of their food and post to the message board. Students will also post a written description of their dish (since we can't actually taste it). Students will view the dishes created by others and comment appropriately.

Week 1: Appetizer
Students will be given 3 ingredients and must create an appetizer using all three ingredients. Students will write a description of their dish, take photos, and post them to the message board.

Week 2: Entree
Students will be given 4 ingredients and must create an entree using all four ingredients. Students will write a description of their dish, take photos, and post them to the message board.

Week 3: Dessert
Students will be given 3 ingredients and must create a dessert using all three ingredients. Students will write a description of their dish, take photos, and post them to the message board.

Week 4: Student Choice
Students will be given 4 ingredients and must create an dish of their choice (appetizer, entree, or dessert) using all three ingredients. Students will write a description of their dish, take photos, and post them to the message board.
Students will receive feedback from peers as well as from the teacher. As an English teacher and chef, feedback and suggestions may be about their writing, their cooking, or both.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be asked to cook in this course. Please take necessary safety precautions and supervise children when necessary.

About Me

"I am not the teacher that you are looking for," as I wave my hand ever so slightly.

I will not fill your students with rainbows and sunshine. I am not super high tech in the computer age. I don't offer fluff and I have no gimmicks. No puppies,...
