Class experience
Mantou(馒头) or Chinese steamed buns was an essential item that my parents and I used to prepare a few days before the most important festival of the year and during Chinese New Year celebration. We made dozens and share them with our neighbors throughout the entire holiday period. In this class, teacher Joy will take you to China and learn a little bit about Chinese New Year celebration. Students will be able to experiment and create Chinese steamed buns from scratch which will help build their self-confidence, understand Chinese culture and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits at home.
A steamer or a frying pan with a heat proof plate, a lid, parchment paper, all purpose flour, yeast, baking powder, milk, ground meat or shrimps, ginger, garlic, sugar, white pepper powder, oyster sauce, green onion, shiitake mushrooms, soy sauce and cornstarch.
Parental guidance is recommended for younger students as we will be in the kitchen and there are hot appliances and other hazardous things in the kitchen. We want our students to be safe and having fun :).
