Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Illinois State University
Hello! I am Winny Lin - I have been teaching for over 40 years, because I love to teach and help students to grow. I taught reading, writing, math, social studies in public elementary schools for 34 years straight!
I also love to share Chinese language and culture. After retiring from my full-time teaching role, I have shared passionately my knowledge of China with elementary, middle, high school level students at schools, public libraries, museums, and summer camps. As a matter of fact, I have taught students from 6 months old to 72 years old. Wow! But I am still working on my craft daily.
I organized a city-wide Chinese New Year celebration with over 1,300 people in a concert hall, a Dragon Boat Festival in the Ohio River, and facilitated extensive exchange education programs between USA and China.
My classes usually are full of fun activities, and I love to be silly and entertaining!
My strengths from my training and experience are task analysis, scaffolding, and curriculum designing. I individualize and recognize my students' strengths. I ❤️ to help them build on their strengths and interests.
I have a master's degree in Special Education from Illinois State University and a Rank I in education from Western Kentucky University.
I was the recipient of "Teacher of the Year Award" from Owensboro Business and Professional Women, and "Outstanding Alumini Award in Education " by Leadership Owensboro, Kentucky.
I am very proud that I founded Annual Owensboro Multicultural Festival in Kentucky. This year will be the 26th anniversary and is still going strong, "celebrating diversity and reaching out beyond ourselves ".
Since I moved to California, I have taken many fun activities like Chinese New Year celebration, Dragon Boat Festival, kite making and flying , exploring China, transcontinental railroad and Chinese laborers, and many more to public schools. In 2024, I organized a team of 8 volunteers, including 4 Chinese artists and 3 interpreters, to help an elementary of 400 Latino students to celebrate Chinese New Year of the Dragon. Very proud.
I love to write, especially about Chinese-Americans and my articles have been published in US-China Review. My latest article is the story of China Camp State Park in California.
Thank you!
