Class Experience

Learners will discover and understand Chinese culture through its lens into daily life, the foods they prepare, forms of entertainment, cultural items, spoken language, traditions, and more. There will also be an opportunity for discussions where questions can be asked and answered. Participants are also free to inquire, share a thought, or even share an online object as long as it is associated with Chinese culture. Here's an Interesting fact: Did you know that within some Chinese families they use dried ingredients in their cooking? You might wonder why when in Western cultures, for example, they use fresh ingredients. Such as fresh vegetables and meats. This is just one small example of a discussion we might have along with other topics that relate. With each meeting a topic of discussion will be explored. Members will have the opportunity to vote and select a culturally related topic for the next meeting. The format of each meeting will consist of providing background knowledge for the chosen topic of the week. This is followed by an open discussion along with fun games and activities that are connected. It will also be an opportunity for participants to share and learn from each other. Contents of topic will be presented through the use of slides, discussions, games, video clips, activities, and use of online learning tools. Some examples of topic areas are cultural items or objects, daily life, foods, spoken language, forms of entertainment, and traditions. I will begin the first meeting with a discussion about daily life which will be introduced through a slide show followed by an activity. participants will select the next topic for the following meeting.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My experience comes form having travel to China and Hong Kong during my younger days and having spent a month staying in the country. On a personal side, I am part Chinese from my father's side of the family, whose roots are from Hong Kong. I was raised with some family members that are ethnically Chinese. Growing up in a family with member of that culture, I learned not only the language but also culture and daily life.
