Class Experience

Welcome to Chess Coaching!

Are you passionate about chess and want to improve your game? Whether you're an absolute beginner or looking to sharpen your existing skills, this class offers a unique, personalized pathway to chess mastery.

First Class: The Foundation
Every chess player is unique, and so is their journey. In our first class together, we'll lay the foundation for your success:

Assessment of Fundamentals: We'll review essential concepts like piece movement, check/checkmate, castling, and the point system. This isn't just a refresher; it's about ensuring you have a solid grasp of the game's core principles.

Playing Ability Analysis: You'll be paired against a 'bot' through a shared screen on Zoom. This isn't a test; it's an opportunity for me to observe your playing style and understand what areas you need help with.

Why start this way? By learning about your individual strengths and weaknesses, I can create a tailored lesson plan that meets you exactly where you are. This ensures that our journey together is both efficient and effective.

Your learning path will include, but is not limited to:

Tactics Training: Learn how to recognize and apply crucial tactical patterns.

Positional Insights: Develop an understanding of key positions to control the board and dictate the game.

Pattern Recognition: Enhance your ability to see common configurations and capitalize on them.

Middle Game Calculations and Studies: Improve your decision-making in this crucial phase.

Endgame Expertise: Master the art of converting advantages into victories in the game's final stage.

Why this diverse syllabus? Chess is a multifaceted game, and each aspect of your learning path is carefully designed to build a well-rounded skillset that adapts to any scenario on the board.

Progress Tracking with 'Bots'
Your progression isn't just about learning new skills; it's about applying them. In this class, your improvement will be tracked based on the 'bots' you play. Successfully defeat a bot without my help, and you'll move onto a stronger one. If unsuccessful, don't worry! We will analyse the game together and mark key areas that require improvement.

Why use this approach? It's a motivating, tangible way to see your growth and offers a clear pathway towards improvement. You'll always know where you stand and what you need to reach the next level.

Your chess journey should be as unique as you are. By joining this class, you're not just signing up for lessons; you're embarking on a personalized path to becoming the chess player you aspire to be. Your goals, your pace, your success - all carefully crafted and guided by an experienced coach dedicated to your growth.

Join today, and let's begin this exciting journey together!

I have been playing Chess for a few years now and improving at a good pace. I have a blitz rating (3/5 minute games) of 1400 (solid intermdiate player) which suggests that I have a really good basic and fundamental understanding of how to play Chess. This course teaches advanced concepts of Chess which I believe my rating is high enough to teach those concepts. Lastly, I'm a professional high school teacher that understands what 'good teaching' comprises of, and thus I structure lessons according to what best suits the learner's needs. Furthermore, I have also previously hosted and organised Chess classes/activites during after school activities which have proven to be a success!
