If your child plays chess regularly (either online or in over the board tournaments) they will see their rating climb.Class Experience
Chess Club 1000 is the advanced continuation of my popular Chess for Tigers chess club. This class offers more in depth lessons designed for students with an online rating (on lichess.org or ChessKid) of at least 1000. We warm up with one tactical theme, testing ideas and working through variations in a lively question and answer format. We then study one short game or some famous positions to work on strategic concepts and opening theory. We end class with plenty of time for live games between students focused on fun, some light coaching, and lots of encouragement. All of my group classes are not set up as recurring/subscription. You can sign up for the same class any number of times. I know it can be a hassle to enroll every week but many of my students and families like the drop in structure. Some take the same class every week, others come 2 or 3 times each week, and some drop in occasionally. I work hard to bring fresh material to every class and shape it around skill level as much as possible. I post my schedule at least a month in advance so it is possible to book several classes at once. I make interactive lessons to support the work we do in class. I follow up every meeting with a link so your student can continue studying independently between sessions. Here is a good example of some advanced positions from the games of Bobby Fischer that we have been studying recently: https://lichess.org/study/01VNUSVT **Prerequisites** All students should have an online rating on lichess.org or ChessKid of at least 1000. If your student’s rating is below 1000 or you are not sure what a chess rating is please start with my other classes Chess for Tigers and/or Chess for (Younger) Tigers. **Prep for First Class** Students will use https://lichess.org/ for live games during the second half of class. They will need to be able to navigate between Zoom and lichess.org and know how to copy & paste on their device to start live games. If that's too tricky please sign up for Chess for (Younger) Tigers instead. Here's a quick video on how to start games in lichess: https://youtu.be/qwrjS5WQ6_A

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from Boston University
When school went remote in March of 2020 my chess club (where I taught full time) thrived. This led to curriculum development, program development, and coaching work at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth, SciGenius, BudBe, Zinkers, and the Chicago Chess Foundation. Before that I taught for three years at the Berkeley Chess School.
Chess is on the cutting edge of a shift toward globally connected, self directed, and play oriented education. I am thrilled to be part of it. As a self taught player currently rated over 2000 I have become an expert in using the most advanced learning tools available to bring lessons to life. I love helping young people discover and excel at this beautiful game.
