In my introduction to chess class, students will learn the basics of the game of chess. This is a very beginner class and no prior experience is required. The topics my students will learn are identifying and naming all chess pieces, how to set up a chess board, how the pieces move and are played, and how to win at the game of chess. There will not be any homework or assessments given, but I will provide the external link to www.chess.com so my students can continue to practice playing chess at home after class with permission from their parents or guardians.
3 files available upon enrollmentStudents should bring their chess boards and chess pieces to class. If a chess board is unavailable, I will also provide a print-out chess board for the student to use. Students should also print out the worksheets provided in order to follow along with class instruction. They may need scissors and glue.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
