Chemistry-Unit Conversion Using Dimensional Analysis - Introduction & Practice
What's included
2 live meetings
1 hrs 50 mins in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. There will be homework practice problems in this class.Class Experience
US Grade 8 - 11
Beginner - Intermediate Level
In this two-day course, students will be introduced to converting units using dimensional analysis- students will learn an efficient step-by-step method for converting between units. I will be teaching using an online chalkboard, presentation slides and practice problems. Worksheet packet that goes along with the presentation and practice problems will be provided. It will be available in the classroom announcement section on the day before class. Students must print the handout before class; learners are expected to take some notes as they fill in the blanks on the handout. This class is an interactive class; when in doubt, students are encouraged to ask questions. I will be assisting students while they work. The class recording will be available to enrolled students after attending the live session. This is meant to help learners review or catch up if they miss anything during class as the class may have diverse learners. Day 1: =>Students will learn to convert between various units, for example, converting between kilometer and miles, or converting between kilograms and pounds. =>Students will learn to convert between metric units (meter to nanometer or picometer to gigameter) using a systematic dimensional analysis based approach. Day 2: =>multi-step unit conversions =>mixed practice problems =>word problems (depending on the pace of each class) NOTE: =>class may go over the allotted time (by 5 minutes or so) depending on the students/class composition =>I will leave the zoom meeting if the student doesn't show up within the first 5 minutes.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to convert between units using dimensional analysis and will be able to apply their knowledge to word problems in chemistry, physics and SAT math.
