Chemistry - Stoichiometry - Chemical Equations - Moles
In this two day course, we will cover balancing chemical equations and stoichiometric conversions. Stoichiometry involves understanding ratios which can be valuable tool for SAT Math and other standardized testing. Great for students who are interested in taking High School Chemistry or just curious for science!
What's included
2 live meetings
2 in-class hoursClass Experience
I will cover the basics of chemical equations including balancing atoms, Avogadro's number, the concept of a mole, convert grams to moles, moles to grams, calculating the amount of products and reactants, finding limiting reactants using stoichiometry or conversion factors. The class will be taught in traditional lecture style with student participation throughout the class is required. Homework maybe assigned as needed to reinforce learning. A powerpoint handout and all meetings will be conducted through the Outschool platform. A general schedule and course topics is as follows Day One: Basics of chemical equations, Avogadro's number and concept of a mole, basic conversions using moles & molar mass. Day Two: Calculating the amount of products and reactants from a chemical equation, finding the limiting reactant and calculating its products, if time permits we will cover the concept of Molarity. Knowledge Required / Prerequisite: The student should have a firm understanding of the periodic table (atomic number, atomic mass), how to calculate formula weight / molecular mass / molar mass and be able to explain the difference between an atom and a molecule. These topics are covered in my other class "Chemistry - Basics of the Periodic Table" Also, the student should know how to multiply and divide fractions and know what ratios represent i.e. converting hours to seconds, day to minutes, etc...

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey !
I consider myself an extension of regular school! I fill in many of the learning gaps that so many students encounter through "school" and provide a "head start" to those wishing to know more.
I have been privately tutoring and teaching for the past 10 years. I have helped hundreds of students gain confidence in complex topics like electron transport chains to protein synthesis to the simpler ones like the structure of atom and a cell.
My belief is learning should be concise and engaging! From the notes, homework and student participation each student will come out with a better understanding and more confidence in that subject area.
I look forward meeting you!
