Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
By the end of this course students will be able to...

Evaluate and interpret graphical representation of experimental results
Differentiate between qualitative and quantitative assessments
Use scientific notation and dimensional analysis to convert between units of measurement
Explain and give examples for types of changes that matter undergoes, such as physical and chemical changes
Differentiate between mass and weight, and explain the relationship between mass and density
Create models of atoms including subatomic particles
Identify element isotopes
Calculate average atomic mass for given elements
Identify an element by its electron configuration and use electron configurations to create Lewis dot structures for elements
Understand the organization of the periodic table and the information it contains about each element
Students may intermittently be given short assignments to complete outside of class meeting times.  These assignments will be given to help introduce new topics, practice skills learned, and/or reinforce learning goals. 
Students will benefit from having but are not required to have: -paper and pencil/pen -a calculator
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Formative assessments will be given regularly in each class meeting to assess student learning and connections.  Formative assessment information will be available upon parent request. The grade for this course will be determined by an optional Final Exam at the end of the 5 week class.
1 hour 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
