These ongoing classes are for high school chemistry (beginners) students and students following GCSE / IGCSE chemistry program (or similar curricula, for example, IB MYP chemistry). Every lesson we will cover a short topic from the high school/GCSE chemistry syllabus, and I will explain how to solve typical exam-style questions. Every lesson is accompanied by a workbook that the students (if they wish) can either print out or upload to a tablet. We will fill it in at the lesson, so that after every class students will have well-structured revision notes with important worked examples of exam-style questions. All classes in this ongoing series have been developed in such a way that the students can take any class without attending the previous classes. The lessons topics are listed below. Please note that weekly topics may be subject to a change. I will try to adjust the level of the materials taught to the current students' level in each section. Week starting September 26: The make-up of matter. Solids, liquids and gases Week starting October 3: Purification methods (including paper chromatography) Week starting October 10: Atomic structure. Calculating the number of protons, neutrons and electrons Week starting October 17: Atomic structure. Electron configuration of atoms and ions Week starting October 31: Ionic compounds. Ionic bonding, structure, properties. Week starting October 31: Molecular compounds. Covalent bonding, structure, properties. Week starting November 7: Overview of classes of inorganic compounds: oxides, acids, bases, salts Week starting November 14: Balancing chemical equations Week starting November 21: Properties of acids and bases Week starting November 28: Properties of oxides and salts Week starting December 5: Identification of ions and gases Week starting December 12: The Periodic Table: overview, periodic trends ===Christmas break=== Week starting January 3: The Periodic Table: Group 1 - alkali metals Week starting January 9: The Periodic Table: Group 7 - halogens Week starting January 16: The Periodic Table: Transition metals and reactivity series Copyright disclaimer: these lessons have been developed independently from and are not endorsed by the International Baccalaureate Organization or Ofqual.
