What's included
4 live meetings
2 in-class hoursClass Experience
US Grade 3 - 6
In this 4-week live course, students will gain a solid foundation in the field of Chemistry. We will cover basic topics in Chemistry and discuss why it's important to understand the world at such a miniscule level. We will learn key terms to prepare students who will go on to further Chemistry study. I use engaging visuals and welcome relevant interaction and questions. I believe that the curious mind is the most pliable. Curriculum: Week 1: Chemistry Basics & The Periodic Table Week 2: Chemical Properties & States of Matter Week 3: Chemical Bonds Week 4: Chemical Reactions After each lesson, I post a handout reviewing the topics and terms covered in that week's lesson. In addition, students will be asked to complete a "research project" each week between classes. They may choose their favorite topic from the past week's lesson, research it during the week, then present what they learned to the class the following week. (Students may also post a video of themselves presenting their research if they prefer that to presenting live.) The purposes of the research project are to: 1) keep students thinking about the subject matter between classes, 2) foster curiosity and the practice of asking questions to learn, and 3) to introduce the idea of research, which is central to all sciences. Though no previous knowledge of Chemistry is required, this course may be taken after my One-Time course “Atoms to Molecules: Introduction to Chemistry”, if students are not ready to commit to a 4-week course.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the difference between atoms, elements and molecules. They will learn about the states of matter, chemical properties, types of chemical bonds and why they form, and the basics of chemical reactions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Brigham Young University-Idaho
While I have recently completed six university-level chemistry courses, I restrict my content to basic level chemistry only. However, my background allows me to answer the difficult or complex questions that often arise.
