Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 7
Why can you never trust an atom? Because they make up everything! ⚛︎

Join us to explore the tiny particle that make up everything you see around you, from the air you breathe, to the food you eat, to the hair on your head. Understanding of the structure of an atom is absolutely fundamental for any budding chemist or physicist beginning their journey to unpick the nature of the universe. 🚀

We will be unpicking these tiny particles by answering the following questions:
- What is an atom?
- What are atoms made of?
- What are the properties of these even tinier particles?
- How are atoms held together?
- What is an element?

These basic questions will open the door to exploring atomic bonding, properties of elements, chemical reactions and more! This is a perfect class for students aged around UK Key Stages 3 and 4, or any eager future scientists.

Learning Goals

Students will use this session to draw and label a diagram of an atom, and calculate how many protons, neutrons and electrons are in different elements!
