US Grade 2 - 4
Beginner Level
Can you make a quick decision and back it up with examples, descriptions, facts, or opinions? Students will be exposed to a variety of thoughtful (and some silly) decisions to make using prompts similar to "Would You Rather" questions. The goal is to make a decision and then back it up with details, all in under one minute. Creativity and imagination is encouraged! I purposely keep this class extremely small so students get LOTS of talk time. The class will begin with a short introduction to public speaking skills and an introduction to the concept of impromptu speaking (public speaking without preparation or practice). Using modeling and we will discuss how to use examples, descriptions, and facts to support our decisions. Every students will then have several decision-making opportunities through given topics, to practice supporting ideas with description and organized detail within a 30 second time.
