Students will practice higher-order thinking skills through the use of complex vocabulary and comprehension questions. We will also cover characters, protagonists, antagonists, conflict, climax, plot, and resolution. Students will become more successful in intelligent discussions of literary text through our live, student-oriented class discussions.
At the end of each live class, I will give information on the assigned reading for the next live class. I will also send the materials for the next set of chapters immediately following each live meeting. This will include comprehension questions for the set of chapters for that week, as well as the reading assignment, story vocabulary, etc. The homework can be submitted for review, or the student can choose to bring the homework to class to go over during our live discussion.
2 files available upon enrollmentStudents will need a copy of the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I will supply the questions for discussion for each week, so no other materials will be needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The student is assessed informally for this course. This is based on the student's ability to participate actively in our discussion of the text. I do have a printed comprehension test over the novel that I can give to students to complete at the end of the course- if desired. I am also happy to score these assessments and give feedback to the learner, if desired.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
This novel depicts more violence and "tween" situations as Harry and his friends are well into their teenage years by this time. Therefore, it is intended mostly for upper elementary to middle school aged students or higher. You can find additional information about the specifics of this novel by visiting https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/harry-potter-and-the-deathly-hallows. Please let me know as well if you have further questions.
Students will need to purchase or check out a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to read from each week. I will provide the comprehension questions for each week. No other materials are needed.
