Class Experience

•	What will be taught?
Effective communication is the key to every interaction with family, friends, co-workers, employers, and nearly everyone else we encounter in life. It is so important to develop strong communication skills at an early age. Many preteens and teens are anxious about meeting and talking to others. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many young ones have spent more time isolated than usual. Many youths and teens miss having friendships, talking with friends, and some are struggling. Communication skills have suffered as a result. Strong communication skills help build confidence and self-esteem.
This class is real-life, hands-on experience designed to help both boys and girls acquire or strengthen their interpersonal skills and make friends in a comfortable setting. They will learn how to get comfortable communicating with other youths their age by conversing with other kids in real-time. The best way to learn is to do it. I will guide them through the awkwardness of introductions and starting conversations. They will get to practice by discussing topics that interest them, all while having fun, playing games, conversing, and meeting new friends. They will also be able to apply those conversational skills in their everyday lives.
•	How is your class structured?
The class is structured to feel like a comfortable hang out time with friends. The idea is for boys and girls to get comfortable just hanging out, meeting new friends, and talking about how they are doing, current events, the newest trends, and other topics of interest. The environment is easy and non-intimidating. We will have an open talk where they are encouraged to discuss topics of interest to them.
•	How will you teach?
Each student is different. Some will have an easy time with meeting and talking to others and some will find it more difficult. My role is to pay attention to their body language and words. I will help build their confidence in a manner that is best suited to their personal learning style. The goal is for all to feel comfortable and I realize that may mean that some learners may want to be in the class, but are not comfortable chatting initially. That is perfectly acceptable. If a learner wants to simply sit back and listen in. That's great! Some learners are very comfortable and enjoy talking a lot, while others are shy and do not say much. Still others, may not talk at all for a few classes, but want to be there. It is ALL acceptable. Our kids, students, learners, have been through a lot in these last few years. This class is all about THEM. I will provide guidance and encouragement to help the communication. For some students, just being in attendance may be a challenge for them, which should be commended.
•	What's your teaching style?
My teaching style is to pay attention to the student and teach according to their needs. Some students need to see something demonstrated first. Some students merely need to hear the instructions. Others need more patience and time to feel comfortable. In my opinion, to be successful, I need to be able to cater to every learning style. In this class, if needed, I will initiate and guide conversations, but I have found that after one or two classes the kids start to feel comfortable with each other, and they initiate conversations very well on their own.
•	How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)?
The entire class is based on interactions, mostly with other students, but also with me. We will have games, lots of discussion, and some slides.
•	Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
No experience is needed. This is an easy, relaxing, fun time that will allow student to meet new friends, get comfortable talking with others, and they will want to do this again and again.
Learning Goals
The goal is for students to learn how to comfortably communicate with other kids in a group setting. This will include introductions, starting a conversation, actively listening, asking questions to get to know other kids, and leaving the conversation. The goal is to do this in a relaxed, fun, group setting, much like one would encounter while just hanging out with friends.

This is a "safe-zone." That means there is no bullying or judgement allowed. The goal is for the kids to be present and focus on interactions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Cynthia Giannone. I am Cindy to my students. In 2014 I graduated summa cum laude with my Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, with a concentration in Counter-Terrorism. I am a mom of two teens; a boy and a girl. I have home-schooled them since preschool. In addition, I currently work as an online ESL teacher. I teach children from ages 4-18. I love teaching children of all ages. My focus is on making the classes fun and interesting.

Previously, I worked over a decade as a Conflict Resolution Supervisor for a major company, and I spent almost 7 years working as a makeup artist while managing a modeling agency.

I am passionate about many things, but these days I am hyper-focused on the safety of children while online. My degree is in Criminal Investigations. I have become all too familiar with the dangers of being online. I believe it is critical that kids are aware of those dangers, what to look for, and how to protect themselves and remain safe.

Others things that I really enjoy are cooking easy, healthy, tasty meals - and teaching kids how to do the same. I also enjoy makeup, reading, Pinterest, and playing card games.

My teaching philosophy is that all children learn in their own way, at their own pace. My goal is to tailor my teaching to each child. When teaching in groups, I use a variety of different techniques to ensure that I do my best to reach all types of learners in my class. I demonstrate what I'm teaching, I ask questions to check for understanding, and above all, I listen. Learning should be fun and interesting. Those are my goals for each and every class.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I hope to see your child/children in one of my classes.
