In this 5 week course, students will be expected to read the assigned chapters ahead of class. During class we will discuss the characters, setting, events, and morals or lessons taught throughout the chapters. We will also practice higher-order thinking through discussions about why the characters make the choices they do, discussing the scenes from the characters different points of view, and coming up with possible solutions for problems throughout the story. Week 1Lesson 1Chapters 1-3Before our first class students will read chapters 1-3. In class we will discuss comprehension, vocabulary, characters, and morals/lessons taught in chapters 1-3.Week 2Lesson 2Chapters 4-8Before class students will read chapters 4-8. In class we will discuss comprehension, vocabulary, characters, and morals/lessons taught in chapters 4-8.Week 3Lesson 3Chapters 9-12Before class students will read chapters 9-12. In class we will discuss comprehension, vocabulary, characters, and morals/lessons taught in chapters 9-12.Week 4Lesson 4Chapters 13-17Before class students will read chapters 13-17. In class we will discuss comprehension, vocabulary, characters, and morals/lessons taught in chapters 13-17.Week 5Lesson 5Chapters 17-22Before class students will read chapters 18-22. In class we will discuss comprehension, vocabulary, characters, and morals/lessons taught in chapters 18-22.
Students will improve their reading confidence, comprehension, and higher-order thinking skills.

In the story the main character, Wilbur, is in danger of being killed. His life is saved through the dedication of a friend, but he does get emotional about the possibility of being killed throughout the beginning of the story.
We will use the novel Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. Students will be required to have a copy of this book.
