Class Experience

This is a novel study of Charlotte's Web with before, during and after reading activities. I will also incorporate learning about farm life by taking a farm tour
**The farm tour will depend on the weather. We will take the tour on the first day as an introduction. If it is snowing, raining, etc. the first day of class the tour will be postponed at another class time within the 2 week period. I will let you know in the classroom which day the tour will be.

Class 1 - Please have chapters 1-4 read before class. The class will discuss chapters 1-4 plus "How do you take care of livestock?" and farm tour if the weather cooperates
Class 2 - Please have chapters 5-10 read before class. The class will discuss chapters 5-10 plus "Why are insects important?"
Class 3 - Please have chapters 11-15 read before class. The class will discuss chapters 11-15 plus "What is it like growing up on a farm?"
Class 4 - Please have chapters 16-22 read before class. The class will discuss chapters 16-22 plus "Let's go to the county fair?" "What is 4-H?" "Why is 4-H important?" "What happens at the county or state fairs?" "How can I get involved?" Yes even people that live in the city can be in 4-H.

Parental Guidance
Please note that the beginning of the story starts with a piglet almost getting slaughtered because it is a runt. It is saved by the girl, Fern but Wilbur (the piglet) learns he will be eaten for Christmas. So the animals have a plan to save him. At the end it does have a major character die peacefully as in nature. https://www.commonsensemedia.org/book-reviews/charlottes-web When we discuss farm life there might be some topics like animals for meat that may come up. The talk will be geared toward that some animals are used for meat as others for clothing, etc.
