Class Experience

Students will learn about lines and shading and the use of charcoal pencils, kneadable erasers, and the process of rendering cartoon animals on paper. Two different drawings will be taught each week, so that by the end of the six-week course, they will have a dozen charcoal drawings on their sketchbook or portfolio ;) They will be able to identlfy several techniques to create expressive, animated characters on the page!
With over 20 years' experience teaching art enrichment classes spanning charcoal and pencil drawing, cartoon drawing, acrylic painting, fiber arts, and other creative courses, I enjoy teaching students of all ages in myriad settings. In addition to the school environment, I have taught preschoolers, elementary students, middle and high school students as well as adults and senior citizens at library events and homeschool environments as well as birthday parties and "paint nights". I look forward to facilitating the stress-relieving joy of creating art and working with students to discover their original style!
Charcoal pencils (a set of soft pencils at the minimum, but medium and hard pencils encouraged as well) kneadable eraser baby wipe or damp paper towel each week (for wiping charcoal-smudged fingers!) heavy drawing paper (bound or in pad size 9 x 12" or 11 x 14" encouraged) Suggested Amazon links are listed below, but Ocean State Job Lot often has the drawing paper and charcoal pencils for lower cost than other sources. Other places for supplies include Walmart, Michael's, A.C. Moore, and art supply stores, in addition to Amazon.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
