1 in-class hoursClass Experience
Draw along with Teacher Bradley in his Secret Underground Art Lab as he creates an original character illustration, or re-creates an existing character. Develop your drawing skills as we explore interesting poses, clothing textures, and facial expressions. New drawings every class! Any student interested in drawing characters for comics, animation, or illustration will enjoy and benefit from this fun drawing exercise! Part 1 - The Plan: We briefly work out what it is we want to draw. Teacher Bradley will announce/proclaim the thing that will be drawn over the course of the lesson. (Approx 5 min) Part 2 - The Sketch: Using light blue or red pencil and a light touch, we will sketch out the pose of the character to be drawn, working out any visual problems that arise while beginning to produce our planned drawing. (Approx 15 min) Part 3 - The Drawing: We will then go over the final sketch with dark pencil or ink. Here is where most of the instruction on line quality, texture, facial expression, etc will be discussed. The chosen drawing will always focus on one or two of a rotating list of certain core illustration concepts. (Approx 20 min) Part 4 - Finishing touches and final Q & A: Teacher Bradley will answer any final questions while adding small touches to make the illustration have a more finished feel. (Approx 10 min) Notes: ~ Teacher will check in with all students at the end of each part of the lesson to ensure everyone is keeping in time with the class. ~ Students are encouraged to ask questions during class, all along the way (ideally questions that are relevant to the step we are on in the illustration process, but any art/illustration-related question will do.)
Learning Goals
Students will improve their skills in planning, sketching, and inking a character. Also posing choices, clothing, hair, and facial expression will be explored. These skills are essential for character design, concept art, pre-visualization for film, TV, and game design, illustration, and animation.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I offer classes in illustration, character design, storyboarding, and more!
I have been creating art for myself and others for over 15 years, including 2D and 3D animation, graphic design, illustration, and storyboarding.
I am passionate about visual storytelling in all forms, especially animation, graphic novels/comic books, illustration, and storyboarding for film/television. I have extensive experience in character creation and design. I want to share everything I know about creating interesting original characters and planning engaging stories.
I believe students should have fun and love what they do while working hard for the best result possible! Laughing while you learn is essential! It is my hope that each student can create excellent, portfolio-ready projects during my longer classes, while working out their drawing muscles during my weekly illustration jams.
As a child I fell in love with the works of Jim Henson, then later I was captured by the expertly crafted stories from Pixar. In between I grew up with G1 Transformers, Chip N Dale's Rescue Rangers, and all sorts of books, comics, and graphic novels. Today, I continue to blend art with story, traditional with digital, and fantasy with reality. I live in Michigan, where I am currently working on two graphic novels while my beautiful wife and I homeschool my son and daughter.
