In this three session course, we will discuss the wonderful show Avatar the Last Airbender, focusing on how the characters grow and develop through each book.
Class experience
Avatar the Last Airbender is a wonderful show not just because of the engaging story and art style, but because of the layered characters and incredible growth they each go through by the end of the story. In this class we will focus on what defines the identity and conflicts of each character, and how and why the characters change. This class is for you if you have already watched the series, love it, and want to go in depth discussing it! If you haven't watched it before you should watch...
Students will gain skills to discuss character development and arcs within Avatar, which will apply to study and discussion of other books or shows. Students will practice articulating their thoughts and opinions to other students, and discussing the other student's ideas. There will be writing prompts and worksheets that will help organize thoughts.
I have been teaching English online for over two years and enjoy helping students develop their reading and speaking skills. I believe Avatar is one of the best shows ever made and that everyone should watch it! I'm passionate about discussing it and the lessons we can all learn from these characters.
You will need to access the episodes online if you want to re-watch or watch for the first time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Avatar is rated PG, but deals with mature themes that we will discuss in class such as family abuse, war, and imperialism.
