Character Design for Beginners!

In this 6-week course, students will learn the basics of character design from the ground up- no experience required! Good character design is based on anatomy, stylization, exaggeration, silhouette, and color palette. We will be studying all of these elements throughout our 6 weeks together! 

Weeks One and Two- Anatomy

Week Three- Stylization

Week Four- Exaggeration

Week Five- Silhouette 

Week 6- Color Theory

I will be showing good and bad examples of each of these elements every week, and walking students through the process of making decisions for their character designs as we draw together. I will be live with students, sharing my screen and drawing with them the whole time, so they can follow right along with me! I will answer questions and review every element as many times as needed for maximum retention. 

At the beginning of each class, I will give a short informational talk before filling the rest of class with lots and lots of drawing together! At the end of class, I will be reviewing and critiquing learner's drawings live.

At the end of this class, students will be able to make informed decisions on how to make appealing characters, no matter what the style! They'll come out with much greater confidence in their design abilities, no matter what level of drawing they have! 

I keep things very casual so that we can explore whatever passions students may have, without "railroading" learners into a certain style. Students may explore different styles and apply their own interests to the characters we create together! There will be lots of opportunity for creativity!
