Class Experience

Students will learn how to discuss the plot, character, setting, themes and conflicts in a book. They will make connections with this book to other texts they have read, to their lives, and to the world.
I am passionate about children's literature. Bookworms and reluctant readers alike enjoy good stories. I believe all children can enjoy reading if an age (and reading level) appropriate book is presented to them in a fun and exciting way. For over 30 years, I have taught children to read and taught novel studies. I have also lead children's book clubs and classroom read-alouds of award winning chapter books.
Students will have daily reading assignments to do at home in preparation for the next class meeting. They will also have a short homework assignment that will include activities such as writing sentences with a few vocabulary words, answering two or three questions about the chapter, or drawing a picture about what they have read.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students should purchase, or check out from a library, a copy of the book "Tuck Everlasting " by Lois Lowry
