I have been a teacher for more than 25 years, I have taught this book many times. I am also the parent of three adult children in the grandmother of six children. I have a lot of experience dealing with age appropriate material for children This is a gentle book about a loving family. There is no sex or violence in the book. There are three incidents in the book I want parents to be aware of:

The two adult characters, Sarah and Jacob, display mild physical affection, including one kiss, and once Jacob puts his arm around her.

Before the book begins the mother has of the died after birth of her son. The family lives on a farm and one day a lamb dies, and Sarah shoos the turkey buzzards away before they can eat it..

I will handle any questions students have about these points with age-appropriate gentle answers. If the students still needs further explanation or discussion, I will contact the parent so they can explain any situation further to the student.
