I read and loved this book as a tween. I have taught it many times. It is a Newberry Award winner and is age appropriate for the learners in this Chapter Chat Book Club. I will use an age appropriate explanations of death and cremation (mentioned in the book). If a learner has further questions about these topics, I will discuss it with them privately and will direct them to their parents, or another trusted adult, for further discussion and explanations.
Learners will read assigned chapters for homework. We will discuss these chapters during class.
Before the class begins, learners should purchase, or check out from a library, a copy of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
There are a few instances of strong language in this book. The words "bitch" "hell" and "damn" are occasionally used. A main character dies and cremation is mentioned. This book is a Newberry Award winner and is age appropriate for learners in this Chapter Chat Book Club. I have taught this book several times before and will use an age appropriate explanation of these occurrences.
