Does your child love a good mystery? The crown jewels have gone missing again! Who did it? How did they disappear? Come solve this mystery with Mac B., Kid Spy. Your child will join in an exciting book club over the course of 6 meetings to discuss, share, and engage in reading skills and strategies. This is book 2 in the series but the books do not have to be read in order. If you'd like to start with Book 1, please see my course listing for Book 1. If interested, check out my class...
Students will focus on reading comprehension skills as well as making predictions, inferences, and connections. Students will interact verbally and through written response with the text.
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. Reading is the foundation for all learning and I used my experience as a licensed PK -6 teacher, with a Master's in Reading, to develop reading skills during our book club. My work as an elementary school librarian allows me to draw on a variety of literacy activities to help make a positive reading experience. Your child will be drawn into the world of Mac B: Kid Spy again as he tackles a new problem in the series! I can't wait to share my passion for reading with your child as we join along in another adventure with Mac B!
In between each class, your child should read the chapters as outlined in the course description to be able to participate in the next class meeting. If your child would like to read ahead, he/she can certainly do so---I never want to stop a reader from reading! I always just ask that they don't give away parts to the other readers in the class, especially when it comes to making predictions. I do like to provide learners with an opportunity to engage with the book on days we do not meet by giving a "challenge" activity. This could be something relate to writing, drawing, and/or creating. It is an OPTIONAL activity for your child. Time spent on the challenge would depend on the time you or your child would like to put in to participate in the challenge.
A copy of Mac B: Kid Spy, Book 2: Impossible Crime Students will need paper, writing utensils, and art supplies (like crayons or markers, etc) for the class. Optional: dry erase board and dry erase marker Teacher may provide handouts or additional resources to supplement each lesson. Any additional handouts will be sent via Outschool Classroom and can be viewed on a device during class or printed for your learner.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I always recommend parents/guardians read or preview the book to see if it is appropriate for their learner.
