In this one-time class, students will compete against peers in live trivia challenges all about the book "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins. This class only covers content from the third book in The Hunger Games series.

Class Experience

Students will sharpen reading comprehension skills, build a sense of community around reading, and practice good sportsmanship.
I have a B. A. in Education, and I'm an award-winning certified teacher in Texas. I have nine years of classroom teaching experience and have taught all subjects. I have five children (including two gifted learners and one severely dyslexic one). My family and I are all huge The Hunger Games fans!
Prior to class, students should read or listen to "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins 
OPTIONAL: students can create an artistic representation of one scene of their choice from the book

* "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins (paperback: Kindle: or audiobook: * OPTIONAL IF A STUDENT WANTS TO PREPARE BEFORE CLASS: The list of literacy circle questions that will be asked (this can be found in the welcome email that was sent upon enrollment or on the first post on the classroom page) * OPTIONAL: Access to a second internet device (like a phone, tablet, or laptop) that can be used to access Kahoot while student is on Outschool on the other device * OPTIONAL: Access to art supplies of the students' choice prior to class to create a artistic representation of a scene in the assigned reading
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
I will keep track of points students earn during the competitions. After class, top performing students will receive a personalized digital award certificate. Student award certificates will be shared with parents the same day as the class. Certificates may be printed as a keepsake or shared on social media by students or parents to celebrate the accomplishment.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Some students and parents may be sensitive to dialogue, uncomfortable situations, teenage kissing, and violence described in The Hunger Games series.
