Chapter Book Battle: The Hunger Games (Book 1) Edition will motivate, challenge, and celebrate readers of all levels. The experience of being immersed in a community of peers that are passionate readers of a shared text will cultivate a deeper love of reading that will last far beyond this course. The interactive fun and friendly chapter book trivia games between students during the live class will strengthen reading comprehension skills, acknowledge individual perseverance and effort, provide good sportsmanship practice, and celebrate readers. This class meets online one time for 45 minutes. Students should read the book "The Hunger Games" or listen to the audiobook version of the text before attending class. Students can read by themselves or read with family members - whatever they are most comfortable doing. During the online class meeting, students will communicate by speaking to the teacher and other students, as well as selecting the answer to questions using a device to play Kahoot as I read questions and answer choices to them aloud. I will briefly explain how the book trivia competition will work at the beginning of class. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a literature circle discussion about "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. For students that would like to prepare prior to class for the literature circle discussion, the list of my questions is available to enrolled learners in the first post on the classroom page, as well as sent in the welcome email upon enrollment. After the discussion, students will spend the remainder of class battling against peers in a live and interactive reading comprehension, creativity, and story book trivia competition game. After class, top performing students will receive a personalized digital award certificate. Student award certificates will be shared with parents the same day as the class. Certificates may be printed as a keepsake or shared on social media by students or parents to celebrate the accomplishment. While reading "The Hunger Games", Chapter Book Battlers can create a drawing or painting to let their creativity shine, but this an optional part of the class. This artistic representation of their choice can illustrate any scene from the assigned book if they choose to participate in this part of class. This art piece will be shared with me and the class if the students would like. Students can choose to use traditional art supplies or utilize a digital platform of their choice to create their art piece. This class is dyslexia, autism, and ADHD friendly.
Learning Goals
