Changing States: A Role Playing Adventure Through Solid, Liquid, and Gas.
What's included
1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursAssessment
There will be no formal assessment. However, successful completion of the adventure will require the use of all six phase transitions.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 8
In this class students will role-play through the phase transitions of water (solid, liquid, and gas). Students will explore Next Generation Science Standard MS-PS1-4 by imagining they are heroic characters on a quest to solve an unnatural phenomenon threatening their village. By working together in a team, students will use magic items that can change the phases of water to solve riddles and puzzles. Because this is a role-playing game, participation is vital and each student will have a turn to perform a single action. This class builds on previous knowledge of the interactions of matter learned in kindergarten through 5th grade, but no specific knowledge is required to enjoy this class.
Learning Goals
Students will build on their understanding of the phase transition concepts of a substance (in this case, water). Freezing, melting, condensation, evaporation, sublimation, and deposition will be explored by role playing characters to solve riddles and puzzles.
