Class Experience

In this one-time class children will get a chance to learn a little about the holiday of Purim from a secular perspective. Children are encouraged to come to class in costume!

We will begin by singing the songs "Mishenichnas Adar" which is a song about how much fun the month of Adar is in Hebrew! The whole song is one sentence and means, "When Adar comes we increase our joy!"

We will talk a little about the holiday of Purim and look at photos of fun costumes and children will get a chance to either talk about their favorite costumes or show off the costume they are wearing.

We will then tell a brief version of the story of Purim. This story will be told from a purely cultural perspective.

After reading the story, we will sing the song "My hat it has three corners" and learn about why we use noise-makers (groggers/raashan) on Purim. Children will then get the chance to quickly make their own grogger/raashan during class.

To do this children will need:
-an empty bottle with a cap
-something to make noise to put inside (options include: beans, rice, pasta, beads, etc.)

After making our groggers/raashan we will play the song Chag Purim and shake our groggers on the lines "Rash! Rash! Rash!"

I can't wait to learn about this super fun holiday with you!
