Homework
There may be a small amount of recipe prep that the instructor will tell students ahead of class. Students will also be responsible for obtaining ingredients and supplies. Optional: Students should post finished recipes and give 1-5 stars with an explanation. I find this helps them remember if this is something they want to try again or if they made a mistake how they can make it better next time.
Assessment
Parents are welcome to contact instructor with questions. If this class is being used as an elective or for credit hours, instructor will provide proof of completion

Class Experience

Students will need to get ingredients ahead of time and possibly a mini waffle maker (around $12 and available on Amazon) before class starts.

A chaffle is simply a keto waffle made with egg and cheese. In other words, a cheesy waffle, or a “chaffle”. And just like regular waffles, low carb chaffle recipes can be sweet or savory. Healthy low carb eating never tasted so good. In this live class, students with instructor guidance will make tried and true low carb chaffles with fresh ingredients that will satisfy even the pickiest eater. Each week we will cook a new recipe (listed below). Full ingredient lists and prep instructions will be given out a week before class begins. Students will share their finished recipes on our Outschool classroom board, where they can also ask any questions.

Class Interaction: Each day students will go to the classroom and reflect on how the creation of their recipe went, the good and the bad. If possible, (optional) they will post a picture of their finished product. Students will post a recipe rating, 1-5 stars, explaining why they rated the recipe this way. Students can act and produce a video as a food critic or write something in the classroom where they explain the star rating. We will each comment on student posts. We will also discuss how the recipe could be improved or if we like it just the way it is. Kahoot or Blooket (teacher's account) quizzes will also be offered as another way to interact with the topic. Students in any of my cooking classes will receive free access for the month they are enrolled to my Group: The Great Student Bake Off. There they can participate in cooking competitions and further interact with other students.

Directions, nutrition and storing information for each recipe will be given out weekly in the classroom so students can follow along with the instructor.

**Note: Students will need a waffle maker for this class. I recommend the Dash Mini Waffle maker to help with portion sizes: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08BCSJBS6/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

You could make an entire meal out of chaffles and, indeed, some people have made variations that are way more than a casual snack, as you’ll see below.
Week One: Basic Chaffle Instructions Three Ways (Students can make in bulk and then freeze for future use).
Week Two: Birthday Cake Chaffle (pictured)
Week Three: Pizza Chaffle (pictured)
Week Four: Cinnamon Churro Chaffle
Week Five: Chicken Bacon Ranch Chaffle

Learning Goals

Measuring: Students will learn fractions, which cups to use and when.
Timing: How to multi-task and serve while food is still hot.
Kitchen Tools and Equipment: This will vary per student, but instructor will guide them with their choices.
While this is a food-oriented class, the focus is on cooking techniques. Nutrition and Diet are not part of this curriculum. However, we will talk briefly about why some choose a low carb lifestyle and how to incorporate it into everyday life.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
• Students should be comfortable using a waffle maker, stove and other kitchen equipment. They should also prepare their workspace ahead of time, making sure it is clean for hygienic purposes. • Parental supervision is essential for safety. ALLERGY STATEMENT: Ingredients for recipes may include common allergens such as Dairy, Eggs, Fish, Shellfish, Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Wheat & Soy. If the learner has dietary restrictions, please contact the instructor so she may be able to suggest ways to adapt the recipe, typically by substitution, or omission of the allergen. (Requires at least 72 hours' notice.) Not all recipes can be adapted. Instructor does not have the ability to ensure that the items you purchase will be completely free of allergens. It's up to the adults responsible for each learner to ensure that products brought into the learners' kitchens are allergen-free.

A week before class begins a supply list will be provided. Instructions for our class will be provided a few days before class for students to review.

As noted above, a waffle maker will be needed for this class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Handouts will be provided in Word format by instructor. Ingredient lists will be given a week before class, earlier if needed.
