Class Experience

4 lessons//4 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Build your Theatre
Creating the theatre using a cereal box. While the paint dries we will talk about story arc and think of potential storylines/characters/settings. All types of boxes are welcome. We will make a story plan and start working on our scenes and setting.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Character Development
Drawing characters for our plays and creating paper stick puppets and exploring main characters and supporting characters.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Narrative Story Arc and mapping it out
We are ready to put it all together. Do we need more scenes? More characters? Cue cards can be created to assist us for performance. We can decide if lines need to be written or if this will be improvised. We will discuss the upcoming final week's presentations and talk about stage fright and ways to overcome it.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Performance week!
Each student will put on a show with their puppet theatre for the class. We will start with a short lesson on audience etiquette. If a student is too anxious to perform their play live, parents are encouraged to help them film it and then screen sharing their video in the class.
  • Your student will learn about story arc, characters (both main and supporting), theatre and settings and how they impact the story we are trying to tell. There is also a performance aspect which helps students struggling with Public Speaking. *This course directly relates to B.C. 🎲Instructor: Ms. Yvonne, BMus. McGill University. Hi! I'm a Metis artist, musician and micro-farmer. My experiences range from 10 years with IBM as a field tech to professional musician. I am a songwriter and a homeschooling mum of two kids and my current obsession is board game design. I believe that child-led project based learning is the key to engagement. As an ND learner myself and a parent of an ND child, I believe connection and relationship are the first step in education. PBL or Project Based Learning allows us to incorporate all sorts of learning in one fun bundle of exploration.
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Homework
Frequency: included
Feedback: included
Details: Students will need to do work outside class to complete each week. Writing their plays can just be point form work or doodled notecards that allows for improvisation within a general framework.
Assessment
Frequency: included
Details: Learners will self-assess based on how they feel about their project.
We are a Neuroaffirming Organization! We support learners with different needs and meet them where they are at. We are experienced scribes and enjoy exploring different approaches to writing and creating for each learner.
You will need an empty cereal box, a pair of scissors, tape, glue, a stapler, paint or markers, coffee stir sticks or actual twigs or popsicle sticks, regular paper, card stock if you have it, and of course, your imagination.
Students will be using scissors and if you want to support the use of an art knife please make sure there is a pad on the workspace to avoid damaging the table top.
The first class is a tricky one. Please be on hand to help your learner sort out the way we disassemble and reassemble the cereal box for our theatres.
