Class Experience

In this course, students will use cellphones, tablets or traditional cameras to learn the basics of composition in photography. Every week we will focus on a new composition rule. I will teach the best practices for following those rules and set forth a photography challenge at the end of every class to be completed before the next meeting. The last class will consist of a "gallery walk" where we will view each other's photos and give positive feedback.

Every class will begin with greetings, feedback over how they felt the photo assignment went, we will do a quick lecture on the photography rule of the week and then have a discussion over different photos and whether or not they meet the criteria of rule. Students are encouraged to share in the discussion, but it's not required.

Course Schedule:
Week of November 29th-December 5th: Rule of Thirds
Week of December 6th-December 12th: Framing
Week of December 13th-December 19th: Leading Lines
Week of December 20th-December 26th: Point of View
Week of December 27th-January 2nd: Strong Subject
Week of January 3rd-January 9th: Repetition
Week of January 10th-January 16th: Selective Focus
Week of January 17th-January 23rd: Gallery "Walk" and Positive Feedback

This is truly a beginner's course into the world of photography. Every time I teach these rules, I have students telling me their photography improved immediately. So whether your students wants to make their social media pop or just loves to see the world through the lens, this class is for them!
