Beginner Level
In this 4-lesson self-paced/pre-recorded course, learners will learn about cells, cell division, DNA, genetics, and Punnett Squares via lecture videos clips interspersed between Nearpod Interactive Slides (to help learners stay engaged and have fun!). The class will culminate with the popular Alien Genetics Lab where they will learn how traits are passed down by drawing aliens using traits based on their Punnett Squares. **Each of the first 3 lessons includes**: 1. Lecture video clips which total 30 minutes of lecture per lesson. 2. Nearpod Interactive Slides between video clips. 3. A set of teaching slides which can be downloaded and kept by learners. 4. A 10-question quiz included in each lesson (located at the end of the Nearpod slides). 5. Lessons 1 and 2 include diagrams we will draw on together, and Lesson 3 includes an Escape Room! The last lesson (lesson 4) includes video instructions for completing the Alien Project! This course is suitable for high school students and possibly advanced upper middle school students. This class could be followed by my HS Anatomy/Physiology/Pathology class. **Syllabus**: Lesson 1: Animal Cells Nearpod Interactive Slides (including Lesson 1 Quiz) Animal Cell Diagram Printable Lesson 2: Cellular Respiration and Cell Division (Mitosis and Meiosis) Nearpod Interactive Slides (including Lesson 2 Quiz) Meiosis Diagram Printable Lesson 3: Punnett Squares/DNA and Genetics Nearpod Interactive Slides (including Lesson 3 Quiz) DNA Escape Room Lesson 4: Punnett Squares/Alien Project Nearpod Interactive Slides (including Lesson 4 Quiz) Alien Project Printable **My full list of high school science classes**: Cell Biology (this class) Anatomy/Physiology/Pathology Nutrition 101
Learning Goals
Learners will know the structure and function of cell organelles, understand the synergistic relationship between cellular respiration and photosynthesis, know the steps of cell division (mitosis and meiosis), be able to "code" DNA (ATCG), and understand how traits are passed down (utilizing Punnett Squares to observe trends). Learners will be able to apply their understanding of genetics by creating an Alien Family!
