Celebrating Hispanic Heritage: Innovators, Nobel Prize Winners, Artists & Activists
Class experience
Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 - October 15! In this class, students will have the opportunity to learn about inspiring Hispanic innovators and their contributions to society through an interactive PowerPoint which includes photos, interesting facts and brief video clips. Students will be provided with printables to create their own booklet. This includes a cover, photos worksheet with photos and an area to fill in the blank and write-in major achievements. Students will identify notable Hispanic Innovators and their important contributions, and where they are from. To check for understanding, students will be asked to share which contributions they feel are the most important. Key terms: engineer, biology, Nobel Prize, nuclear-free, indigenous, O-zone, folk art, surrealism, human rights, feminism, Afro-Latino, segregation, activist.
Printer (optional) Something to write with Stapler, or hole-punch and string for booklet
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
It is helpful for students to be familiar with key terms such as "Hispanic," Nobel Prize, nuclear-free, indigenous, O-zone, folk art, surrealism, feminism, performance art, human rights, Afro-Latino, segregation, and activist, but not required. These topics will be briefly discussed during class. Learners may also need assistance putting together their books, and with final research presentations which can be in the form of a written report, science or art project or perfomance/skit.
