Celebrating Dr. Seuss With a STEM Project - Making Oobleck
What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Once upon a time, a king wanted something new to fall from the sky. And down came Oobleck! What is that?!? In this class, I will summarize Dr, Seuss's story "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" while we look at some of the pictures. We will then make our own oobleck (or watch me make it). Is it messy, so be prepared for that. We will talk about how the oobleck we made was like the substance in the book. We will discuss and explore what oobleck is. We will compare it to other solids and liquids. We will talk about how things sink and float. Lots of fun scientific explorations and discussions. Supplies: (see supply list below)
Learning Goals
Students will be able to define and solid and liquid
Students will observe sinking and floating
Students will show how force or speed can change the state of oobleck

Teacher expertise and credentials
I love looking around me and asking questions. "What if....?" Science is full of "what if" questions. Come explore simple science experiments with me. Most of the items can be found around your home or easily found at the store. I also have a love for math... especially math games. Join me as we make math fun! Many parents and learners appreciate the way I bring laughter to the classroom.
I have been an educator for 10 years: online ESL teacher for 5 years, and a Kindergarten teacher for 5 years before that. I have worked with children of all ages in various summer school and online activities. I have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Boise State University and a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah University. I live in Idaho, USA with my husband and my 2 young daughters (Ages 2 and 5). We enjoy reading books, getting a little messy, and taking walks together.
