Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned weekly to help learners apply the concepts through various exercises. Additionally, there will be recording assignments to further enhance their practice and understanding.
Certificate of Completion
Families may request a certificate of completion once the course has been successfully finished. This certificate serves as a formal acknowledgment of the learner’s participation and achievement, providing a tangible record of the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course.

Students will learn through lectures, readings, exercises, and listening assignments provided by the teacher. This is a live interactive online course limited to 6 students to ensure exclusivity and that each student receives the attention they need from the instructor. Students may email the instructor if there are any questions. The class time is structured according to the following topics as outlined in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada, which helps support the study of music theory at every state of musical development. Supplementary materials will be provided for additional practice.  Assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. Learning Goals

Students will build a strong understanding of basic music theory concepts through interactive lectures, readings, and exercises based on the Royal Conservatory of Music guidelines.

Lesson 1:
𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐬
 There will be classroom introductions and a review of materials learned from previous levels. The topics that will be covered in the first lesson will include the circle of fifths, scale degrees, intervals, chords, time signatures, music terms, and signs. There is a practice quiz that learners can take on their own outside of the lesson.

Lesson 2:
𝐊𝐞𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬
 Learners will develop their knowledge about chromatic, whole-tone, and octatonic scales. Other scales that will be taught include the pentatonic and blues scales. Learners will develop their skills in identifying major and minor keys through different in-class exercises by the course instructor.

Lesson 3:

 The following topics covered in this lesson include dots and double dots, irregular groupings, and completing measures with rests.

Lesson 4:
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐬
 Learners will develop their skills in identifying diatonic and chromatic intervals, writing intervals below a note, and inverting intervals. There will be an in-class listening activity by the course instructor.
