In this 8-week music theory course that follows the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, students will learn a variety of topics in music theory, including musical pitch, notation, scales, rhythm, and intervals.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned weekly to help learners apply the concepts through various exercises. Additionally, there will be recording assignments to further enhance their practice and understanding.
Certificate of Completion
Families may request a certificate of completion once the course has been successfully finished. This certificate serves as a formal acknowledgment of the learner’s participation and achievement, providing a tangible record of the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course.

Students will learn through lectures, readings, exercises, and listening assignments provided by the teacher. This is a live interactive online course limited to 6 students to ensure exclusivity and that each student receives the attention they need from the instructor. Students may email the instructor if there are any questions. The class time is structured according to the following topics as outlined in the Royal Conservatory of Music in Canada which helps support the study of music theory at every state of musical development. This section is designed for the young learner's pace. Supplementary materials will be provided for additional practice.  Assignments will be due two days prior to the scheduled meeting to allow the instructor to provide timely feedback to the learner via the Outschool classroom. Learning Goals
Students will build a strong understanding of basic music theory concepts through interactive lectures, readings, and exercises based on the Royal Conservatory of Music guidelines.

Lesson 1:
𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 & 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰
 Learners will introduce themselves and learn about the classroom policies. In this lesson, they will learn more about notes and clefs, ledger lines, half steps, whole steps, accidentals, chromatic and diatonic half steps, enharmonic equivalents, transposition, and stem direction. There will also be an in-class guided listening activity by the instructor of the course.

Lesson 2:
𝐑𝐡𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐦
 Learners will continue to develop their knowledge on note and rest values, ties, triplets, beams and stems, time signatures, the anacrusis, completing measures with rests, and compound time signatures like 6/8 are introduced. Learners will also be able to explore different repertoires including 'Wild Mignonette' and 'March of the Tin Soldiers'.

Lesson 3:
𝐒𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬
 Learners will continue to develop their knowledge about the major scale, be introduced to more key signatures, the minor scale, the concept of parallel keys, and how to identify the difference between major and minor keys. Learners will also have the opportunity to explore repertoire in class.

She is an internationally known linguist, teacher, and professional musician who has taught on four continents. Her passion for service stemmed from her work as an AmeriCorps Vista Fellow. In her spare time, she likes to play with her pet rabbit, Señor Blanco.
