Description

Class Experience

In this course students will:
- Approach the geography and history of Brazil
- Talk about Brazilian cultural traditions like dancing the quadrilha, special foods, costumes, games, and decorations
- Learn some ways to celebrate Festas Juninas at home
I have a PhD in Latin American Studies and have taught introductory courses in the subject for six years, including a version that meets Louisiana state educational standards in Social Studies.
There is no homework for this one-session course, but if students want to learn more about Brazil, they are welcome to enroll in one of my longer courses or sign up for an independent research project with me!
Students may want to have some paper, and markers or crayons available (optional).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will participate in a brief self-assessment at the beginning and end of the one-session class.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Colonization may be referenced regarding the Portuguese origin of the festivals. This class will maintain a historical, secular viewpoint.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
