Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
In this class, I will teach how UK citizens celebrate Bonfire Night. I will talk about the food, candy, Penny For The Guy, bonfires and fireworks.

I will ask the learners if they know why we celebrate Bonfire Night, and what date Bonfire Night is celebrated each year.

I will recite the Remember Remember rhyme, and then explain the Gunpowder Plot of 1605. I will give the background as to why a group of men planned and tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London, and why they failed.

I will tie all the facts into our modern celebrations.

I will teach the learner how to make a toffee apple. We will not make this in the lesson, but I will demonstrate what to do - very easy for the learner to do with a parent/caregiver after the lesson.

Some of the class will be a discussion between myself and the learners when I ask them questions and tease out how much they already know before I teach the lesson material.

Learners can ask questions at any time or clarify points with me. They can ask verbally or send a message on Zoom if they are shy.

No previous knowledge is needed.
