US Grade 3 - 6
*All "busy-work" and commenting in the classroom is optional in this class. Week 1: During the first week of class, learners will be able to interact with myself and other learners to discuss cats (their own, friends, others) as well as play games while learning about cats. This will cover the fun word games, mini-games, and other activities which will be a fun way to learn these new facts. This class will focus the joy of having a cat in your life and the fun, interesting ways they live. The first three days will be focused on discovering what learners already know about cats as well as ice breaker games to start us off. For student participation together, students will play kahoot and blooket, reinforcing this new cat knowledge with fun games. Students will learn about these cat facts through class lectures and cat related games, where they will see visual examples of what cats can do. Then students will have a chance to discuss the newly learned cat facts and what their favorite cat facts were. They will be able to interact with the teacher through the games as well as though the thought-provoking questions posed about cats. Week 2: During the second week of class, we will start to cover how to draw cats and more cat facts along with it. Learners will be able to learn how to draw a cat, along with the cat facts having to do with a cat's body. Students will be able to find out about different cat breeds during this week, as well as cool facts about them. Once again, students will be able to participate in games where they will reinforce their knowledge about cats they have just learned about does as well as how they can look after them. For student-to-teacher interaction outside of lectures, I will function as a game moderator and interact with the students by participating in the games myself. Students will also be able to complete a quiz about the things they have just learned. Week 3: For the third week, students will learn about big cat facts, like lions and tigers. However, the difference to this class is that students will be learning the difference between big cats and house cats - as well as the similarities which they possess. Students will discover the difference between a house cat and a big cat. For teacher participation, I will have a segment during the week when the learners will play teacher and have to test my knowledge of cats! For student participation together, students will play kahoot and blooket, reinforcing this new cat knowledge with fun games. Students will learn about these cat facts through class lectures and the games, where they will see visual examples of what the the cat facts look like (e.g. cat eyes, cat jumping, etc.). Then students will also get a chance to draw one of these cat's paws, which will add to the reinforcement of this knowledge. As a teacher, I will also give a short how-to on drawing cats. Week 4: For the final week of class, students will face their last cat fact test. Students will be given a bingo card to use on their cats in their life, where they must try and get a bingo on whether they have seen their cat do some of the things they have thus far learned about. During that time, students will be able to discover how much of the past three weeks they remember as they attempt to, as a group, work out whether their peers have also seen these things. Along with that, students will also be offered a last couple games for fun, which will let them refresh their knowledge of the earlier weeks. During this time, I will be coming up with the games and providing feedback to the students about their actions. Class will conclude with a final farewell and a final cat related game, to further reinforce what we have done throughout this class. This class is meant to be a fun break from constant homework and make learning easy!
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to know various details about house cats and big, wild cats which they can share with their friends!
