✨✨Use code WATERSERIKA10 for $10 off this class!✨✨ In this elementary art class, students will explore the colorful world of Paul Klee by studying his famous painting Cat and Bird. They will learn about Klee's unique use of shapes, lines, and vibrant colors. Students will then create their own version of Cat and Bird, using oil pastels for bold outlines and watercolor paints to add vibrant washes of color. This hands-on project will help students develop their creativity, understanding of color blending, and appreciation for one of modern art’s most imaginative artists.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Art and Design from Appalachian State University
Hi there! I’m Erika Waters, and I’ve been teaching art for 18 years across a variety of settings—public schools, art studios, and homeschool co-ops. Additionally, I've taught English online for 5 years. With a BFA in Art Education (K-12), I’ve had the privilege of sharing my love for art with students of all ages and backgrounds.
My teaching philosophy is simple yet profound: art isn’t just about creating beautiful images; it’s about connecting to the world around us. Whether we’re sketching, painting, or exploring mixed media, every project helps us develop a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world we live in. Art teaches us to observe more closely, think more creatively, and express our unique perspectives. I believe that learning to be better at art helps us connect more deeply with life itself.
In my classes, I strive to create a fun, engaging, and educational environment where students feel empowered to explore, experiment, and grow. I believe that art should be a joyful experience, and I aim to inspire creativity, confidence, and curiosity in every student I work with.
When I’m not teaching, you’ll likely find me camping with my husband and three kids, tending to my garden, or sipping on a warm cup of chai tea—my favorite way to unwind and recharge. I’m so excited to share this creative journey with you and help you develop your artistic skills while having lots of fun along the way!
