I have a Master’s degree in Education and 20 years of experience teaching and tutoring students in both middle and high school who struggle with any part of writing. I taught various subjects throughout my career, but most of my classroom time was spent teaching ELA. If your student needs help catching up in any ELA subject (reading comprehension, writing, writing mechanics) then this class is for you. If your student needs help with grammar, punctuation, other writing mechanics, writing...
Students will learn about all of the writing genres: Expository, Narrative, Persuasive, and Technical. Students will learn how to write appropriately for each genre. Students will learn correct grammar and writing mechanics. Students will learn how to write in compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences instead of only simple sentences. Students will learn tips and tricks to break down any writing prompt to make it manageable. Students will make progress in their writing ability as shown through their work samples and assessments.
No sensitive or high-risk topics are covered.
Homework is based on individual needs and supports necessary for success.
Google Docs is a great way to share writing for collaboration between student and teacher.
