Using Steve Sheinkin's youth history book as an outline, we will learn the story of the men who tried to steal Lincoln's body for ransom. This book offers a brief history of money and counterfeiting, the history of U.S. Secret Service, and the hunt for the men responsible for the crime. This course aims to be a fun and engaging look into a mostly unknown chapter in American History. We will use slides and a question and answer/seminar format, short video clips, and a Kahoot quiz toward the end of class so that students will retain what they have learned and have a fun competition.
I am a master's degree holder in history, and I have taught for about five years, mostly in college. I attempt to cover difficult or upsetting subjects with the appropriate sensitivity.
Homework Offered
No preparation is required, but the class outline is based on Steve Sheinkin's book, Lincoln's Grave Robbers. Reading the book before or even after the class would create a more rewarding learning experience.0 hours per week outside of class
