In this 3 week book club we will read and discuss "Catching Fire," the second book in the Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins.
Class experience
US Grade 6 - 9
In this class we will read through the book "Catching Fire" by Suzanne Collins. This is the second book in the Hunger Games series. This class is open to students who have never read the book and students who may have read the book previously but would like to re-read it in a book club setting. Students should have previously read "The Hunger Games" before reading "Catching Fire." If you are interested in this book series but have not read the first book, please check out my Hunger Games...
Students will engage in book group discussions each week. Through these discussions we will work on comprehension skills, analyzing the characters and their actions, making connections, discussing the author's purpose for including different events and characters in the book, and comparing and contrasting different characters and events.
I am a licensed school librarian with a love of dystopian young adult books! I have lead book groups and discussions with students across a wide variety of age groups.
Homework Offered
Students are expected to have the reading complete before each class period. There will be 4 or 5 chapters for the students to finish reading before each class. See the class description for a breakdown of the chapters to be read for each class. Please have chapters 1-4 of "Catching Fire" read before our first class meeting.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
