READING IS A FUNDAMENTAL SKILL NEEDED FOR SUCCESS IN SCHOOL AND LIFE. To be successful in reading, your child needs to understand how to comprehend what they are reading. In this class, we work on comprehension skills such as finding the main idea, locating details, using context clues to figure out unfamiliar vocabulary, making inferences, analyzing character traits, and more. Don't wait, if there is a gap in reading, the gap will only get bigger as the teacher and class keep moving forward!

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀:
Boost your child’s confidence and motivation.
Improve their ability to understand and enjoy what they read.
Prepare them for higher-level reading

Students are welcome to join at any time, this curriculum is designed for year-long practice. Although we revisit topics multiple times for skill reinforcement (Practice Makes Progress), all practice activities are different.

This class is highly interactive and encourages active student participation. Each session begins with an introduction to a specific reading comprehension strategy. Following the introduction, we will practice the skill together using teacher-provided stories. Students will take turns reading aloud and answering questions. Throughout the lesson, we provide guidance on pronunciation, fluency, and effective reading techniques to support student growth.

Please note the class uses 4th-grade reading material and is appropriate for advanced 3rd graders, on-level 4th graders, or 5th graders needing additional support.

H𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗪𝗢𝗥𝗞 - We teach "Practice Makes Progress"! After each class, we send an email detailing the skill we covered and a home practice worksheet. (Please make sure your class communication is turned on, so you will get these notifications.) We do not grade the assignment, but the answers will be included for you (the parent or guardian) to assess the student at home as well.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 – We want to be your learning partner. You will receive communication from us after the first class and at least every third class. In this communication, we will share our observations and suggestions for your student. You are welcome to reach out to us at any time. To make sure you receive the communication, check your Outschool communication settings.

The teachers at Achieve Learning Partners are friendly, patient, and encouraging, and meet each student where they are academically. We care about your child's success and work hard to help them build the skills and confidence needed to succeed.
